11.08.2008 14:26 - 5 killed in car accident on Krasnoyarsk – Yeniseisk Highway

Three pedestrians were knocked down by a foreign-made car, which smashed a concrete guard rail on Krasnoyarsk – Yeniseysk Highway on Sunday. The car accident resulted in the death of five people.

A 26-year-old Toyota Caldina driver lost control, hit the concrete guard rail and knocked three people down. As a result of the car accident, four people died at the scene. They were three men aged 36, 27 and 24, and a woman.

The driver was taken to Yeniseisky District Central Hospital, where he died from the injuries received. The press service of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Chief Directorate for Internal Affairs promised to comment on the car accident later.

As Newslab reported earlier, last week a serious car accident happened on the same highway, with five deaths too.

10.07.2008 17:48 - Deputy Prime Minister and ministers appointed in Krasnoyarsk Territory Government

A Deputy Prime Minister and ministers of the region were appointed in the Krasnoyarsk Territory at the Legislative Assembly session on July, 10.

Edkham Albulatov was appointed Deputy Prime Minister in charge of economic issues. Alexey Ivanov became Minister for Economy and Regional Development. Mikhail Kotyukov was confirmed in a new position as Finance Minister of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

The candidates were approved unanimously.

09.07.2008 18:03 - Krasnoyarsk Governor Alexander Khloponin promoted to colonel rank

Krasnoyarsk Territory Gov. Alexander Khloponin was promoted to the colonel rank today. "Here's another for our ranks," Lieutenant General Alexander Postnikov, Commander-in-Chief of Siberian Military District, said congratulating Alexander Khloponin with his promotion.

Governor's councilor Olga Filyurina quoted Alexander Postnikov as congratulating the governor with the support of Siberian military men and wishing him new success in the achievement of state tasks for the benefit of Russia.

"You contribute to the social and economic development of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, in particular, the activity of the military district, by your dedicated service and complete professionalism," Alexander Postnikov added. He invited the governor to participate in the army exercises, which were scheduled to take place in Siberian Military District in the near future.

The commander-in-chief awarded Alexander Khloponin with the of Defense Minister "for the assistance with the fulfillment of the call-up service objectives of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in 2007".

The meeting was attended by Krasnoyarsk Deputy Governor Yuri Konovalov, Krasnoyarsk Territory military commissary Yuri Serkov, and Magmed Khanaev, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Siberian Military District. In the end of the meeting Alexander Khloponin suggested that a standing commission for the interaction with the regional military commission and the solution of problems which arised in the military sphere.

Famous Kyrgyz writer Chinghiz Aitmatov died in Nuremberg, Germany, as "Ekho Moskvy" radio informed. The writer, who turned 79, was taken to hospital with preliminary diagnosis of pneumonia and nephatony. Doctors were trying to save his life for two weeks but did not succeed.

Chinghiz Aitmatov was born in Kyrgyzstan in 1928. He become famous in the 1960s, when such novels as "The Mother's Field" and "The White Ship".

11.06.2008 12:21 - Headliners of "Sayan Ring" festival named in Krasnoyarsk Territory

Folk music star Pelageya will become the presenter of V International Ethnic Music Festival "Sayan Ring". "Pelageya has confirmed her participation in the festival. She will not only sing at the final concert on July 13, but also become a presenter," Tatiana Veselina, the executive director of the festival, told a KNews correspondent.

Both national and foreign musicians will become the headliners of the festival. "British musicians will bring an ethnic experiment here," Veselina noted. "Justin Adams, a guitar player of Robert Plant's group "Strange Sensation", Ben Mandelson, and a continuous guest of the festival Lu Edmonds will perform in a stringed trio. Justin Adams, Julde Kamara, an afro beat star of Gambia, and Dowson, a former participant of legendary 3 Mustafas 3, will make the second special trio specially for the festival.

The list of headliners also includes world music star Zulya Kamalova (Australia-Tatarstan), who invited some Australian musicians to the festival, including Aydar Gaynullin, one of the world's best accordion players and a composer, "Dakha-Brakha" ethno house group of the Ukraine.

The national musicians to take part in "Sayan Ring" festival are: Russian folk star Inna Zhelannaya, "Masha and Medvedi" group, and Moscow's Safety Magic group, who will present their joint programme. "We expect a lot of stars working in various styles to take part in the festival," Veselina added.

As Newslab reported earlier, "Sayan Ring" festival would take place in the village of Shushenskoe from July 9 to 13. The main events will take place in Shushenskoe from July 11 to 13. The musicians arrive at the camp on July 9. More than 100 groups and musicians from all over the world are expected to participate in the festival.

One June 10 Krasnoyarsk Governor Alexander Khloponin signed the new Rules of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The solemn ceremony was attended by deputy-governors, deputies of the regional parliament, and other officials of the region.

After listening to the national anthem, the officials and others who were present at the ceremony were told that the new rules had been passed in the final reading at the Fifth Session of the Legislative Assembly on June 5.

"This document is a great, significant and historically important document in its kind," said Alexander Uss, speaker of the Legislative Assembly. "And this can be explained, as we are dealing with the main law, the Constitution of our huge region. This is a basic document which is the foundation for the whole regional law system, which is set to determine our future life. It is a thought-through, well-done, real Siberian document."

After his speech the document was signed by Gov. Alexander Khloponin in two copies, one for routine work, the other to be passed to the Regional Museum.

"380th anniversary of Krasnoyarsk history" clock was installed at the Revolution Square in Krasnoyarsk on June 10. The ceremony was attended by local officials: Vladimir Chashchin, speaker of Krasnoyarsk City Council, Professor Gennady Bykonya, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Lyudmila Gavrilova, Doctor of Arts, Cossacks, and honored Krasnoyasrk citizens.

Chashchin greeted Krasnoyarsk citizens and said that the clock opening was an important event in the city life, "We are opening this clock on the eve of the forthcoming 380th anniversary. The entire history of our city is closely connected with its symbols, Krasnoyarsk citizens have been treating the history of the city carefully, local authorities supporting them in that. We are thankful to everyone who have contributed to social and economic history of Krasnoyarsk. This clock will reflect historical events of the city and become a worthy sight." On behalf of Krasnoyarsk Mayor Petr Pimashkov and City Council deputies Vladimir Chashchin congratulated Krasnoyarsk citizens with the anniversary of the city.

Gennady Bykonya, in his turn, noted that people of different occupations had been involved in the creation of the clock, among them were university teachers, museum workers and historians. All of them contributed to the popularization of the city history, "Messages which the clock will play are connected with historical dates, they will be changing as time goes on. The clock will encourage interest to the past of our city." Lyudmila Gavrilina said, "The clock will play interesting, unusual and mysterious audio pages of Krasnoyarsk chronicle."

After the solemn opening of the clock, the anthem of Krasnoyarsk was sung by a chorus, and all those who attended the event, could listen to an audio extract from the city history.

One will be able to listen to the anthem and historical texts of 5-8 minutes every hour. It is worth mentioning that the clock was bought at the expense of sponsors and cost $100,000.

10.06.2008 18:13 - Nearly all children hospitalized with enterovirus in Khakassia released from hospital

34 children of "Yelochka" kindergarten, where two children had died from an infectious disease, were released from Abakan Infectious Hospital on June 10, the Khakass Department of the federal regulatory healthcare and civil rights protection inspectorate Rospotrebnadzor reported. 34 children have been released from Abakan Infectious Hospital for three days. The state of ten children remaining in hospital is out of danger.

Primary care physicians keep watching the children at home. No new cases of the disease have been registered.

As Newslab reported earlier, two children from Abakan kindergarten "Yelochka" died on May 31 and June 3. Both the death cases in one and the same kindergarten were not interconnected. The cause of the death of a 2-year-old girl was a generalized form of meningococcus, while the other child died of purulent encephalomeningitis, supposedly caused by Haemophilus influenzae. Nearly 40 children from "Yelochka" kindergarten were taken to hospital. It had been reported before that the children had had enterovirus.

A criminal case was opened on "Neglect" against Yulia Shmidt, the kindergarten director, who faces up to five years' imprisonment.

10.06.2008 18:12 - Krasnoyarsk mayor opens new park and takes part in planting

On June 9 Krasnoyarsk Mayor Petr Pimashkov opened a new park in Krasnoyarsk – an event devoted to the forthcoming City Day.

The foundation of the Park of Krasnoyarsk 400th anniversary took place in Sovetsky district. The mayor and his first deputies, heads of the city districts, deputies of the Legislative Asssembly and Krasnoyarsk City Council opened "Let Us Make Future Together" Sculpture, which symbolizes the park foundation. The officials also planted some trees in the first park alley.

The park is planned to be developed totally by 2028, when Krasnoyarsk citizens will celebrate the 400th anniversary of the city. Despite non-accomplishment of the project, it is known to be classical with free-design elements. The park will be decorated with fountains, ponds and about 400 bells. There will also be a sculpture garden here.

After that the mayor opened a new square near Labor and Consent Culture Palace. It is one of the biggest parks built in Krasnoyarsk recently. Its area reaches about one hectare. There is a fountain, which was solemnly opened, in the center of the park. "This year we are reconstructing and developing 12 squares in all the districts of Krasnoyarsk. 5 of them are situated in Sovetsky district, which is not made at random, as housing construction has been going on in this district intensively for several years, while there is lack of recreation areas," Pimashkov said.

Petr Pimashkov also awarded contractors, who took an active park in the development of the square, with "For service to the benefit of Krasnoyarsk". He added that a sculpture devoted to frontiers, which had been planned to appear on the square, would be installed this or next year.

10.06.2008 14:16 - Central Krasnoyarsk to become walk area on City Day

Traffic inspectors recommend that motorists should not park in central Krasnoyarsk on City Day, June 12. On this holiday traffic will be blocked for private and public transport, especially at noon, when a carnival is scheduled to take place, Krasnoyarsk Traffic Inspectorate reported.

Traffic will be totally closed at three main central streets – Karla Marxa St., Lenina St., and Mira Prospect. Traffic will be restricted at the adjacent streets too. Motorists will detour the center, which will become a huge walk area, along Bograda St., Dubrovinskogo St., Lebedevoy St., and Bryanskaya St.

Moreover, the Communal Bridge will be closed as the participants of the carnival will proceed along it. To get to the right side of Krasnoyarsk drivers will have to use Oktyabrsky Bridge, reaching it along Dubrovinskogo St. After the carnival participants pass the bridge, some central streets will be opened for traffic. However, driving will not be allowed everywhere.

In this connection traffic inspectors urge that motorists should not go to the city center but better use public transport. Central streets will be cleared of cars parked on the night of June 11-12.

10.06.2008 13:59 - Girl missing in Khakassia killed

A 4-year-old girl, who had gone missing in Khakassia, was killed. A 17-year-old boy suspected of the murder was arrested, as Directorate for Investigation of the Investigation Committee of the Russian Prosecutor's Office reported.

Investigators established that the teenager took the girl away from home, where she was playing nearby, and strangled the child in the forest, 300 meters away from the village. The young man threw the girl's clothes into the river for it to be thought that the girl had drowned. He dug her body in the waste pile.

As the young man is under-aged, he faces up to 10 years' imprisonment fro this crime. He has previous convictions for a theft.

The suspect was taken into custody on June 7. Investigative and search actions are being taken.

As Newslab reported earlier, the 4-year-old girl went missing from her home in the village of Vershina Teyi, the Republic of Khakassia. The criminal case "Murder" (Article 105, Part 2, Point C) was opened on the fact of the child's disappearance.

23.05.2008 14:55 - Krasnoyarsk governor to visit Taimyr

Krasnoyarsk Governor Alexander Khloponin will visit Taimyr. Mr Khloponin is expected to visit Norilsk, Khatanga, and Dixon, as Igor Astapov, the governor's press secretary, told KNews.

In each of the territories the governor will hold meetings on social and economic development and visit a lot of social facilities. In particular, Alexander Khloponin will visit a recently built Ice Palace named after Rusanov in Kayerkan, a new kindergarten and Norilsk Traffic Safety Affairs Inspectorate. The governor will be shown a street surveillance system used to monitor the traffic situation in the city.

In Dixon Mr Khloponin will see a district hospital, a comprehensive school and Dixon Marine Port, and KrasAvia office in Khatanga. The official visit of the head of the region around the northern territories will take three days.

22.05.2008 18:31 - Krasnoyarsk ice hockey player Alexander Semin receives souvenir prize from governor

Krasnoyarsk Governor Alexander Khloponin presented a souvenir gift – a golden map of the Krasnoyarsk Territory decorated with diamonds – to Alexander Semin, the world ice hockey champion 2008, at the ceremony of State Awards of Krasnoyarsk citizens on May 22.

After the ceremony Semin answered questions about the championship asked by Khloponin. As the world champion confessed to journalists later, "It is a great pleasure when you are paid such attention to." According to him, such ceremonies do not bother him, "It was much more difficult to win at the field." The ice hockey player has a calm attitude to the fact that Russia's national team won the Canadians at their native field, "Last year Canada beat us in Moscow, and now we win them in Canada. Nothing special."

When asked about his plans for the future, Semin said he was going to stay in Krasnoyarsk, have rest and just sleep very well. The ice hockey player said he had no other detailed plans.

22.05.2008 18:14 - Krasnoyarsk mayor meets world ice hockey champion Alexander Semin

Krasnoyarsk Mayor Petr Pimashkov met Alexander Semin, the first Krasnoyarsk citizen to win world ice hockey championship, on May 22.

As Newslab reported earlier, Alexander Semin, a player of Sokol (Krasnoyarsk ice hockey team), gained 14 points (6 goals and 8 passes) at the last World Championship in Canada, which finished with Russia's national team's triumph. The Krasnoyarsk ice hockey player scored two pucks in the final, bringing a 5-4 victory over Canada to Russia.

On behalf of all Krasnoyarsk citizens Petr Pimashkov congratulated Semin with his outstanding victory and wished new victories bringing glory to Russia and Krasnoyarsk in the future. "Sport has always been and will be a uniting factor for all our citizens," Pimashkov said, "Ice hockey victories like that make us proud of our country and town, which a sportsman represents. I hope there will be a new generation of champions soon."

It is worth noting that Alexander Semin's parents were present at the meeting with the mayor. Petr Pimashkov invited the world ice hockey champion to the celebration of the 380th anniversary of Krasnoyarsk and presented a clock to the Semins family and a unique symbol of Krasnoyarsk – the golden coat of arms.

16.05.2008 16:00 - Krasnoyarsk citizen sentenced to 11 years in jail for raping his child

Zheleznodorozhny District Court of Krasnoyarsk sentenced a 45-year-old man to 11 years' imprisonment for raping his under-aged daughter during three years. Olga Shamanskaya, a senior aide of the Investigation Directorate of the Investigation Committee of the Prosecutor's Office reported about it.

According to Shamanskaya, it was established by investigators that the 45-year-old man had been raping his child since 2004 when the girl was 12. "The girl's mother died in 2000, and her father served a term in jail for a robbery. He was released in 2004, took the child from her relatives and began raping her. By the way, their acquaintances and neighbors suspected that but kept silent. It became known from the girl's friend, who saw a rape accidentally. The teachers reported about it to police," Shamanskaya said.

The man was convicted of the rape of the under-aged (Part 131, Point E, Article 131 of the Russian Federation Criminal Code) in the strict regime colony. The girl is at her relatives' now.

16.05.2008 15:41 - Alexander Khloponin to visit South of Krasnoyarsk Territory

Krasnoyarsk Territory Governor Alexander Khloponin is expected to go to the southern districts of the Krasnoyarsk Territory on a working visit on May 16. The programme of his visit includes Yermakovo and Shushensky District. The main theme is preparedness of the region for the upcoming forest fire season.

As the press service of the regional administration reported, the regional authorities had prepared the necessary quantity of helicopters and heavy engineering and ensured a stock of petroleum before the beginning of this fire season. Waterborne and parachute squads of fire stations, 2500 people in number, are in one-hour state of alertness. The use of reserves for reduction of fire quantity will be discussed at the next session of the Security Council of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

Then the governor will visit the village of Yermakovskoe, where he will meet with heads of the project of complex development of the Yergaki Natural Park. This project comprises construction of a federal training center for Russian Olympic national team, a training center for emergency workers, creation of a modern energetic, transport, engineering and road facilities and the development of tourism in the natural park.

The governor is expected to hold a meeting on the sowing campaign in Shushenskoe in the end of his visit. In spring 2008 the regional agrarians intend to sow 1 million and 164 hectares of land, which will be 50,000 hectares more than in 2007.

16.05.2008 15:33 - Unified health monitoring system of pregnant women to appear in Krasnoyarsk Territory

A unified health monitoring system of pregnant women is expected to appear in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. It was discussed at the meeting of Krasnoyarsk Governor Alexander Khloponin and experts of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Genetic Center on May 15.

Khloponin stated that a unified system of monitoring of the health state of pregnant women should be launched in the region. He noted that the monitoring services should be free of charge for any citizen of Krasnoyarsk or any remote district. The governor stressed that Krasnoyarsk Diagnostical Center should become a part of a perinatal center which will be created in Krasnoyarsk. It is planned that it should help to unite the efforts and capacities of healthcare for pregnant women and newborn children.

07.05.2008 18:42 - Krasnoyarsk contract soldier killed in Chechnya

Krasnoyarsk soldier Dmitry Polishchuk was killed in Groznyy. As Yuri Shvytkin, the Krasnoyarsk Territory Legislative Assembly deputy, told KNews, the tragedy had happened near the town of Oorus-Martan on Friday night.

"Dmitry Polishchuk was wounded during an attack on our soldiers. It is not known yet what kind of a wound it was – a bullet or a splinter one," Shvytkin explained.

The injured soldier was taken to hospital, where he died later. The funeral of Dmitry Polishchuk will take place in Krasnoyarsk. However, the date of the funeral is not known yet. At present freight 200 is in Novosibirsk. The soldier's relatives live in Severo-Yeniseisky District of the Krasnoyarsk Territory but plan to move to Krasnoyarsk in the near future.

Olympic champion Olga Pyleva, who returned to big sport after two years' disqualification period in February 2008, announced she would change her surname.

Next season the biathlete will have the surname of Valery Medvedtsev, her husband and personal coach, a famous sportsman in the past.

"I have been willing to take my husband's surname earlier, and by foreign passport has expired lately. In my new passport I will be Medvedtseva. Return to big sport is a new life and a new surname," "Sport" TV Channel quoted the sportswoman as saying.

Dmitry Medvedev was inaugurated as Russia's new president on May 7. He became Russia's third president following Boris Yeltsin and Vladimir Putin.

After Medvedev took the oath of office in the Kremlin's Andreyevsky Hall, Valery Zorkin, chairman of Russian Constitutional Court, declared his inauguration as head of the Russian Federation.

The inauguration of Dmitry Medvedev took place on the day when Vladimir Putin's second term as president was expired. Vladimir Putin was also present at the ceremony in the Kremlin. Entering the Kremlin, he greeted the Kremlin soldiers as Commander-in-Chief for the last time and thanked the personnel of the Russian Federation Armed Forces for their service.

Medvedev was first to step into the Kremlin halls, yet Putin was the first to speak. After that Medvedev took the oath of office. In his inaugural speech Medvedev stated he intended to do whatever was required to ensure safety of Russian citizens by the state and not only according to the law.

"Yenisei Ring" Super Marathon, devoted to the 63rd anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, has started in Krasnoyarsk. 10 Krasnoyarsk veterans – runners – are taking part in the marathon. The length of the super marathon will be 200 km. It will last for five days with 4 overnight stops.

Before the start Sergey Venevtsev, head of Krasnoyarsk Sport Agency (Krassport) wished good luck to the sportsmen and congratulated them with the start of the marathon. "200 km is no distance for the ones with your health!" Venevtsev assured.

As KNews reported earlier, the route of the super marathon goes along the Cable Bridge, Metallurgov Prospect and out of the city, further – along the Yenisei River, via the villages of Kubekovo, Chistoostrovskoe, Kuvarshino, Shivera, Atamanovo, Sukhobuzimo, Minderla, Taskino, Solnechnyy and back to Krasnoyarsk.

The sportsmen refused from the escort of a patrol car of the State Traffic Safety Affairs Inspectorate. They will be escorted by a car with clothes, tents and food only. The runners will finish on Otdykha Island on May 8 during the meeting near devoted to the 63rd anniversary of Victory Day near the Monument of Internationalist Warriors.

04.05.2008 15:51 - Three missing children found in Krasnoyarsk Territory

Three children, who went missing in the Krasnoyarsk Territory on May, 1 holidays, have been found. A woman, a citizen of Tugach, reported to the operative board of Sayansky District Interior Department that her granddaughter, 13, had gone missing. Police established that two girls went to the first to fetch some birch juice. One of them returned home around 6 p. m. and said to the woman that her granddaughter had lost in the wood. The woman was searching for the girl for four hours unsuccessfully and then reported to police.

More than 140 people were involved in the search for the child including police officers, rescuers, foresters, hunters, Cossacks, and local citizens. On the next day the girl was found by local citizens 15 km away from Tugach around 3.00 p. m. The child is reported as being in satisfactory condition. She is at home now.

On May 2 a thirteen-year-old teenager, who had escaped from home several times, left home at 2.00 a. m. and took his younger brother with him in Kansk. Thanks to operative work of police, the children were found on the same day.

Children are running away from their homes more often, as it is warm now, the press service of the regional interior department reported. In average from 4 to 7 children go missing every day.

Nearly 8,000 people took part in the First of May demonstration in Krasnoyarsk. That was several thousand more than it had been planned by the organizers.

The Day of Spring and Labor started with a demonstration in the city center from the Oktyabrskaya Hotel to the Theater Square along Mira Prospect. The demonstrators were representatives of trade unions, workers, employees, regional and municipal authorities, political parties. The majority of the demonstrators were members of trade unions – forestry, mining and metallurgical, machine-building, culture, trade and catering, geology, healthcare etc. The demonstrators were carrying banners with the names of their organizations, flags made specially for May, 1.

The column was headed by officials and heads of trade unions: Vasily Kuzubov, First Deputy Governor, Edkham Akbulatov, Deputy Governor, Anatoly Romashov, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Tatiana Zelenskaya, Deputy Mayor, Oleg Isyanov, chairman of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Trade Union Organization. On arrival at the Theater Square the column of each trade union was greeted "Hooray!", and after that the anthem of the Krasnoyarsk Territory was on.

Edkham Akbulatov greeted the demonstrators and noted that celebration of the first of May was a report of the parties of social partnership to the workers of all spheres. "Our region is going through a stage of new industrialization. New industrial outputs appear nowadays, housing construction is on a rise, which cannot but influence labor relations. Salaries have increased in the region largely. There are no arrears of wages and serious labor trials," Akbulatov said.

Anatoly Romashov congratulated all the regional citizens with the First of May on behalf of the regional parliament, and Oleg Isyanov stressed, "Lots of people have taken part in the demonstration, and it proves that all our efforts are not in vain, and we will continue heading together in the same direction."

After that a concert of local musical and dance groups started at the Theater Square.

30.04.2008 13:54 - Beheaded woman found at Krasnoyarsk cemetery

The body of a young woman was found on a grave at "Shinnikiv" cemetery in Leninsky district of Krasnoyarsk on April 29. The body was beheaded and charred, she looked aged between 17 and 25, the Krasnoyarsk Territory Investigation Directorate of the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation reported.

A criminal case was opened on murder (Article 105, Part 1) of the Russianh Federation Criminal Code. Investigation is being carried out by the Krasnoyarsk Territory Prosecutor's Office. The killed has not been identified yet.

30.04.2008 13:49 - Krasnoyarsk "Stolby" listed among superfinalists of "Seven wonders of Russia"

The second stage of "Seven wonders of Russia" finished on April 29. "Solby" National Nature Reserve, which is situated in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, got into the superfinal, RIA Novosti reported. The winner of the superfinal is Elbrus, which outdid all the rest 14 candidate sights.

Nearly 250,000 of 3.7 million people, who took part in voting for seven wonders of Russia, voted for Elbrus, the highest peak of Russia and Europe, which is situated on the borderline of Kabrdino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia.

Apart from Elbrus and "Stolby", the list of the superfinal sights includes: "Vovnushki" fortress in Ingushetia, Motherland Statue in Volgograd, Tobolsk Kremlin, Lake Baikal, Kungursk ice cave in the Volga Region, Novosibirsk Zoo, Kirillov Belozersk Monastery in the town of Kirillov, St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, the Kremlin in Nizhni Novgorod and some other sights.

The final voting is scheduled to take place from May 1 to June 10. Seven winners will be declared on the Day of Russia, June 12, during the concert at the Red Square.

29.04.2008 18:05 - Krasnoyarsk Territory not ready for beach season

The Krasnoyarsk Territory is not ready for the forthcoming beach season. The main reason is that 90% of the beaches do not belong to the state-owned institutions which could follow their state. It was announced at the meeting of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Emergency Commission, which was devoted to emergencies and water safety in the region in summer 2008. The meeting was held by Krasnoyarsk Deputy Governor Yuri Konovalov. The meeting was also attended by: Andrei Gnezdilov, Krasnoyarsk Deputy Governor, Sergey Berunov, the head of the Regional Agency for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Fire Safety, representatives of Rospotrebnadzor and other experts.

It became known at the meeting that 11 beaches of 118 are state-owned and have official statuses of recreation areas. They are run by a legal entity which ensures cleaning, disinfection and other procedures required. However, most of the beaches are wild. Nobody keeps order and can ensure safety of citizens bathing there. As a result, numerous violations arise there: dirty water and soil, lack of disinfected toilets and other violations of sanitary norms.

Rospotrebnadzor carries out regular checkups of such areas. However, beaches working and violating the sanitary regulations cannot be closed, under the law. Rospotrebnadzor warns the owners of the beaches and orders to eliminate the violations. In addition, the agency has the right to send a document to the Magistrate Court, which can order to close the activity of the beach. Local authorities must be involved in this work too. They must hold special checkups in such places.

This year the state of regional beaches will be controlled more thoroughly. "If there are any violations, we should take care that the beach area should be closed immediately. We are not going to warn anybody several times," Yuri Konovalov stated.

29.04.2008 17:51 - Nearly 12,000 people ready to help in fighting forest fires

Alexander Akimov, deputy head of the Federal Forestry Agency, arrived in Krasnoyarsk on a working visit. The goal of his visit was to check up the preparedness of the Krasnoyarsk Territory for forest fire season, the Krasnoyarsk Department of Natural Resources and Forestry reported.

A meeting with participation of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Forestry Agency, Ministry for Emergencies, the Krasnoyarsk Territory Interior Department, federal regulatory agency for consumer right's protection and healthcare Rosprirodnadzor, the regional air base of forest protection, took place in the regional administration. The meeting was held by Krasnoyarsk Deputy Governor Andrey Gnezdilov. All the emergency services involved in firefighting reported about their preparedness for the forest fire season 2008 to the federal official.

As for April 28, 65 forest fires, 1,090.6 hectares in area, were registered in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. 137 forest fires, 1900 hectares in area, had been registered for the same period in 2007. The majority of fires broke out in Yermakovo District – 26 fires, 680 hectares in area. A her state of readiness was declared in Yermakovo District by the decision of the District Commission on Prevention and Liquidation of Emergencies, Fire Safety and Water Safety on April 25.

28.04.2008 12:38 - Vladimir Putin to award Krasnoyarsk governor with order in Kremlin

Krasnoyarsk Territory Governor Alexander Khloponin will be awarded with Order of Merit for Country Order in Moscow on April 29, the governor's press service reported. The awarding ceremony will take place in the Kremlin by Russian President Vladimir Putin personally.

"It will be the last awarding ceremony to be held by Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin as a president," Alexander Makarov, a spokesman, noted.

It is worth reminding that Putin signed the decree about the awarding of Krasnoyarsk Territory governor with Order of Merit for Country of the IV Degree on April 3, 2008.

Alexander Khloponin is on a visit in Moscow now and will stay there until the end of the week. He plans to hold some meetings there, details to be revealed later.

28.04.2008 12:31 - Open air museum to appear in central Krasnoyarsk

An open air museum will appear in Krasnoyarsk in the park zone on Tatyshev Island in central Krasnoyarsk. As the burg city project author and assistant professor of Siberian Federal University Lyudmila Gaykova said, "Krasnoyarsk Burg", the project of a historical and architectural and ethnographic complex, is ready for implementation.

At present authors of the project are awaiting the allotment of land and for the project to be signed by Krasnoyarsk mayor. As soon as the city allots the land, financing tools will be launched, and the idea will be put into practice, Gaykova assured. "The project was worked out by city intelligentsia, " she said. "Those are teachers of Krasnoyarsk Pedagogical University, scientists of the Regional Museum. I have collected the richest materials which has never been published before. We plan to create a complex which will consist of the burg itself, a wooden architecture museum, the Yenisei Region peoples zone, houses, yard buildings, and craft museums. Such complexes are situated in the suburban area in other towns. In this respect Krasnoyarsk will be the only place where a zone like that will be located in the city center."

The primary idea was to open the unique ethnographic open air museum by 380th anniversary of Krasnoyarsk. In autumn 2007 the authors of the project hoped to present five towers and the main walls of the burg by the city's jubilee. Now the project authors plan to erect at least one tower and begin to build the walls and hold a presentation of the burg for Krasnoyarsk citizens. The project is quite expensive, the organizers report. It was estimated as $8 million a year and a half ago, when the search for the investor began. At present the cost of the project reaches $14-20 million. Nevertheless, Lyudmila Gaykova said, businessmen ready to invest their money to "Krasnoyarsk Burg" and confident of making profit of it have already been found.

The information that the creation of such a project is being discussed was confirmed in the mayor's office. Negotiations with investors are being carried out, the press service reported.
