The International Assembly of Capitals named Krasnoyarsk Best CIS city for the creation of an effective social policies. Tatiana Zelenskaya, Krasnoyarsk Deputy Mayor, announced it to journalists on April 8.
Krasnoyarsk received the award at the first international forum "Megapolis: XXI Century", which took place in Moscow on April 3 and 4. Zelenskaya noted that the award appeared not to be the city's first one. The event was organized by the International Assembly of Capitals and Cities (IAC) and the Moscow Government. At present the association consists of 70 cities of 9 CIS countries.
 
The main event of the forum was summary of the results of "Best CIS City" first show contest, where 78 cities of the Russian Federation, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, the Ukraine and Georgia participated.
"We could see how other CIS cities and countries work, learn, share our experience, and how to develop further," Zelenskaya pointed out. She mentioned that each city had something to teach others. For instance, Minsk is a leader on municipal services and one of CIS cleanest cities. Novosibirsk is the first in scientific and technical development, while Ufa keep the best control over industrial objects. "It has been one more step. Our goal is to become a city with European way of life and not just the first city," Tatiana Zelenskaya stated.
The contest consisted of two nominations: "For stable and dynamic development", and "For effective management". Krasnoyarsk became the winner in the first nomination: its subnomination "For effective social policies". The victory in this nomination is gained by a city which solves the objectives of citizens' life quality improvement most efficiently.
The International Assembly of Capitals and Cities (IAC) was founded on January 9, 1999 by the executives of 7 capitals and 19 big cities of 9 CIS countries. MAC President is Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov. Krasnoyarsk Mayor Petr Pimashkov has been MAC Vice President since September 27, 2007.
