 The first trial on mass intoxication of students will start in Sovetsky District Court in Krasnoyarsk today, judge Sergey Tupeko reported.
Six-rank cook of Keiterie Ltd Oksana Gegel and director of the firm Pavel Ponomaryov are accused of the breach of sanitary regulations in cooking dishes for the student ball, which resulted in mass intoxication of ball participants with salmonellosis.
287 people are the injured parties in this case. Notices of appointment inviting them to the trial had been sent to all of them. The court assured any injured party could present a refusal to take part in the trial in the written form.
Gegel and Poonomaryov are accused of "The violation of sanitary and epidemiological regulations causing a mass disease of intoxication of people by carelessness" (Clause 236 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The accused face a fine of $3,000 of up to three years' imprisonment. In addition, the accused have already pleaded guilty and had submitted a petition to have their verdict passed without a trial.
Traditional governor's student ball attended by more than 1,400 people was held in Krasnoyarsk on March 1. As a result, 287 patients were taken to Krasnoyarsk hospitals with suspect salmonellosis. Investigation showed that the drinking reception of the ball had been served by Keiterie Ltd which has got not regular authorized complement and involves temporary workers without medical references. Keiterie worked without a sanitary and epidemiological license for catering.
