A big memorial complex "Commander N. P. Rezanov" opened at the square near the Big Concert Hall in Krasnoyarsk on Saturday. Krasnoyarsk Mayor Petr Pimashkov, honored citizens, workers of the mayor's office and Krasnoyarsk citizens attended the monument opening.
Guests American writer Eva Everson and Leonid Nakhodkin, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Unified Humanitarian Mission of San Francisco, arrived at the city for the holiday event too.
"Today we pay tribute to a great man. Let the memory of his deeds live long years. Let this monument always have live flowers," the mayor said to the citizens. Then archpriest Vyacheslav Bachin read out the statement of Krasnoyarsk and Yenisei Archbishop Anthony, who was not able to be present at the ceremony, and sanctified the memorial.
After that Leonid Nakhodkin read out a proclamation of San Francisco County Mayor who said he was grateful to Rezanov for the establishment of diplomatic and trading relations with California. "Being the mayor of San Francisco County, I declare July 8 the Day of Commander Rezanov in San Francisco and attest it with my signature and seal," was said in the statement.
Eva Everson brought a flower and soil from Conchita's grave which she laid to the monument. Then architects, sponsors and Krasnoyarsk honored citizens took the floor. "The opening of this monument is a significant event for Krasnoyarsk and Russia in general. We pay tribute to the one who did a lot for our country. I am grateful to the delegation from California very much. They have done a lot to keep his memory," Pimashkov stressed.
In the end 7 couples who got married on June 10 laid flowers to the foot of the monument. Krasnoyarsk Mayor Petr Pimashkov presented certificates for the purchase of refrigerators to them.
The ceremony ended with a theater performance and letting pigeons out into the sky.
