Traffic will be banned for drivers along cycling and jogging tracks on Tatyshev Island in Krasnoyarsk. The decision was made by Krasnoyarsk State Traffic Safety Affairs Inspectorate at the instance of sportsmen, as Krasnoyarsk Sport Agency (Krassport) reported.
There used to be warning signs only on the cycling tracks. According to them, drivers used to be able to drive there at 3 mph speed. These warning signs will be replaced with prohibitory ones.
As deputy head of Krassport Vladimir Musienko said, drivers used to pose serious danger for sportsmen. "Mass sport is constantly developing in Krasnoyarsk. The number of people going in for jogging, roller-skating, cycling is increasing. It is on Tatyshev Island that one of the best equipped tracks are situated. Both professional and amateur sportsmen go in for sports there. Drivers must not use these tracks as they disturb cyclists and joggers. We have been struggling against driving there for a few years. However, it is now that we have come to understanding with the traffic inspectorate. The mayor's office pays attention to the problem too, as it is of vital importance for many of Krasnoyarsk citizens," Vladimir Musienko noted.
It is planned to allow cars drive along Tatyshev ring only, which is 2 miles long. Two jogging and cycling tracks, 1 and 1.5 miles long will be closed for drivers. Traffic inspectors will observe following the rule.
