Krasnoyarsk to launch pollution-free fuel production

A unique pollution-free fuel production, the first one to the East from the Ural, is being launched in Krasnoyarsk Dec. 21. Production of pellets will be launched at Yenisei Timber Processing Plant.

Pellets are a type of wood fuel made from compacted sawdust produced as a byproduct of sawmilling and other wood transformation activities. They are usually called "improved fuel" because the heating value of 1 mt of pellet granules (4-9 kWh per kg) is higher than of 1 mt of coal. 2-2.5 mt of pellets equal 1 mt of fuel oil or 1 cubic m of gas. Moreover, one more advantage of pellets is that they do not affect environment when burnt.

These unique characteristics have led to the preferring pellets for heating houses all across Europe.

Yenisei plans to expand to European markets with the new product. This investment project is supported by the Krasnoyarsk Territory authorities, which are working out a subsidy percentage rate for loans by commercial banks. Moreover, the authorities helped to provide power for the new production.

Krasnoyarsk Territory Deputy-Governor Andrei Gnezdilov is expected to attent pellets production opening.
