About 1,100 babies were born with congenital defects in Krasnoyarsk Territory in 2005. Of them 420 had birth defects leading to invalidity. Chief doctor of Krasnoyarsk interregional diagnostics center of genetics Tatiana Yelizaryeva announced it at the press conference on November, 17.
Yelizaryeva told that congenital heart disease are the most widely spread: up to 32% of all the diseases. They are followed by defects of musculoskeletal and urogenital systems.
"Most of such diseases are difficult curable and are affiliated with a hard period of social adaptation. The reasons of birth defects is multi-factorial influence on a pregnant woman in 80% of cases: from genetic factors to the environmental influence," Tatiana Yelizaryeva explained.
Yelizaryeva said the best method of birth defects treatment is preventive work of doctors with pregnant women: prenatal diagnostics, ultrasonic and biochemical examinations. "Future fathers need to participate in examination too. They can have a medical genetic consultation and take a prenatal course, which includes a complex medical examination," Yelizaryeva stressed.
