The 3rd stage of Russian Chess Championship of Siberian Federal Area was opened in Abakan City Gymnasium on November, 3. There are 186 boys and girls from 7 to 12 years old from 13 Siberian territories are among the participants.
Young chess players were greeted by Nicolay Bulakin, Abakan mayor, and Alexey Lebed, the chairman of the Government of Khakassia republic. The right to raise Russian banner was given to Vladimir Mokhov, a pupil of Abakan Sport Children-Youth School, a two-time bronze prize-winner of Siberian Federal Area of 2002 and 2003. Chess competitions of such a scale have been held in Abakan for the first time.
As an IA REGNUM correspondent announces, Abakan mayor Nicolay Bulakin had sent a letter personally to Russian Chess Federation with a request to hold competitions of a younger group in the capital of Khakassia. The Federation supported the initiative because Abakan young chess players have a very high level of preparation and had become prize-winners of Siberia and Russia not once, Russian Championship will last until November, 10. The winners will become the participants of the final, which is traditionally held in Dagomys City.
